The origins of Ugly Heores stems from Apollo Brown wanting to do a heavy blue collar album that paints a real picture of life out there. Not a gangsta record. Not a hipster record. A record that paints life as it is today for a lot of the working poor. And as much as we all want to act like we aren’t the working poor – truth is, most of us are living check to check with moments of glory intersparsed with notices from electric companies that the disconnect is pending. Emcees Red Pill (Detroit) and Verbal Kent (Chicago) lay some of the rawest slice of life narratives in the game today over 15 tracks produced by Apollo Brown. Think soul drenched beats with moody horns and heavy drums. We all listen to these rags to riches stories most people sell us, but this is that rags and still hoping story. The album is Ugly Heroes.

Mirage The Illusionist is an up and coming rap artist repersenting the city of Philadelphia PA. His music is a mix of the struggles in the street, everyday 9 to 5 dead end jobs, and fight between ones self through the search of religion. Very laid back type of artist but also speaks with much intensity and power. Mirage is also known for his creative song writing, deep lyrics, and positive message he brings to his audience. Many people name him as the furture of hip hop and all around real music because everything his music repersents is all around what anybody goes through in life in search of a purpose. This is his second mixtape which he released on april 28th 2013 called “The Truth Hurts”. This work of art consist of 15 incredible deep and meaniful songs, a true revolution in the state of hip hop which is so watered down at the moment. Backed with outstanding production and excellent wordplay this mixtape speaks right to the individual listening to it by explaing the reason why the truth hurts to most of us.

Today Stereo Crew & Soul Daad release their free LP “AMSTERTROIT”. As the title hints, this album is a result of Detroit and Amsterdam collaborating.
Stereo Boyz & Stereo Crew teamed up with Amsterdam’s Soul Daad recently to produce and record “Amstertroit”. The two teams of MCs and Producers first met on Twitter, exchanging beats and ideas. Amazed by the undeniable talent coming from overseas, the Stereo Boyz picked 3 beats by Soul Daad members Gianski & Bolle for their upcoming album “Carz, Clubz & Theaterz”.
During their recent Europe Tour, the Stereo Boyz met the Soul Daad crew in person for the first time, and after a whole week in their Amsterdam headquarters, “AMSTERTROIT” was born. The LP consists of production and vocals from both crews, bilingual raps and great chemistry.
Mixo says: “We wanted to show a unity with this project, a unity in Hip Hop that, it seems, has been forgotten. This is positivity. This shows you that Hip Hop brings people together, and no language barriers or far distance can stop it.”
“AMSTERTROIT” is now available for free download. Look out for the video to “Ooh La La”, dropping in three weeks.
F.Y.I. continues to lay down the foundation for his upcoming record, Yo! The Places You’ll Go, which is shaping up to sound like a dope record. Clap Clap is the latest song from the Mid-City L.A. emcee which brings a couple elements to the table as soon as you hear it. First, a killer Afro-Latin sounding sample with a splash of ill horns along with a Nigerian artist named Smalls speaking in his native tongue on the song’s bridge makes you wanna wave a flag at a festival somewhere. Second, F.Y.I. got bars! Third, the song disects the ills that come with the party lifestyle. For some time, many popular songs have lost serious cool points from artists not saying shit, so to hear a song with flavor and a message deserves to get a clap clap.
