The Spotlight is on…
NAMETAG
– When did you fall in love with H.E.R.?
I fell in love with H.E.R at some point in the very early 90s. Hell, I probably was born in love with hip hop.
– MC/DJ/Producer/Graff Writer/Bboy ?
I am definitely an MC. Mic Controller, Master of Ceremony.
– Dayjob or no Dayjob?
To get the good music out to the people is my job, whether it’s day or night. Lol.
– 5 All time favorite records?
I’m indecisive when it comes to decisions like this, so I’ll just say these off of the top: “One More Chance remix” by Notorius B.I.G, “Call My Name” by Prince, “C.R.E.A.M” by Wu Tang Clan, “Baby Be Mine” by Michael Jackson, “No More Pain” by Tupac Shakur. I don’t necessarily have a top 5 all time, but these songs came to mine the instant you asked.
– Internet: gift or curse?
Both. It’s a gift because as far as music it allows artists who are truly talented to get their product out to the masses by a simple upload and mouse click. It’s a curse, because any and everybody can build a false image, call themselves an artist and get their product out to the masses with a simple upload and mouse click.
– Biggest accomplishment:
My biggest accomplishment is being able to get my music out to the masses of true hip hop fans who genuinely support my brand and enjoy my music.
– Why should people check you out?
People should check me out because I stand behind authentic hip hop music. I’m confident in the music that I release and I consider myself charismatic.
– Inspiration?
Life. If you don’t experience anything in life, or know of another person’s experiences, then as an artist, what do you create from? Right?
– Favorite song you produced/MCd on?:
Off the top, I’ll say the title track for “Ahead Of The Basics” mixtape released back in ’07. It’s crazy, because I remember Black Milk saying that Elzhi was orignally supposed to record to that beat.
– Why do you still love H.E.R.?
I still love hip hop because of it’s use for expression and way to channel emotions. Plus other than the older heads in my family, hip hop raised me.
– Where can we check you out?
www.itsnametag.com period. As a matter of fact, browse the website right after this interview.
