Jarren Benton has a reputation for extremes, and since joining the roster of independent powerhouse label Funk Volume, also home to Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, SwizZz, and DJ Hoppa, he’s been growing his bite. Earlier this month, the Atlanta-based rapper released the cover art and lead single, “Razor Blades And Steak Knives,” from his Funk Volume debut, My Grandmas Basement, and today, Jarren is excited to announce an official release date for the album of June 12th, and along with it, Jarren and Funk Volume are releasing the official video for “Razor Blades And Steak Knives.”
The song, featuring Hemi and produced by SMKA Productions in-house producer Kato, is haunting and frenzied, matching dark organs and strings with Jarren’s whipping, winding flow, and the video, directed and edited by JKap for Rite Media Group, fits the vibe perfectly, bringing the aggressive yet playful verses to life with a parade of twisting camera angles and fast-moving shots. “I let the beat and energy of the music speak to me,” explains Jarren, “and I welcome anyone who gravitates to my music.” Despite the self-described craziness, which runs through Benton’s fast-paced dissing, he takes a more sober tone behind the scenes- “it’s all in good fun and I hope the fans enjoy it and don’t take it too seriously.”
