I have to start off this post with an apology. I’m sorry I held this for a couple of days. I need to be more diligent in my inbox duties. LOL. DUTY. But for the Culture and for YOU, I shall do daily posts. DAILY. I’m also just getting adjusted into a nestle of the Desert SouthWest (relocating) and things are going a little different than planned but progress continues to move forward. That being said I wake up this morning and go to my emails where I have my regular and archived mail. I go to my archives and see an email from Black Friday from my fellow brother in the Culture, Mr. James Ciphurphace. For those of you that had a chance to read my first post and listen to Talk-Sik’s album, Inner-War-Kings, you were introduced to Ciphurphace (if you hadn’t known of him prior) via the song “Keeps Calling Me Back” where both emcees displayed the raw emotion embodied in a true form of emcee. Ciphurphace himself went on one of the craziest bar stints I have heard in a while. CRAZY DOPE! ! And that album is pure genius in itself. Kudos again.
Having read the title of this post and my mention of Ciphurphace it’s most obvious that he is a member of what you are now being introduced to as, SpaceLAB Recordings. If this is your first glimpse prepare for a treat. This song, this video. Is just great. You know when you have a good song when 3 bars into it you are already bobbin your head with a happy yet grimy smirk on your face. These gentlemen went in AND out of this track. Punchlines on point, vibe FULLY appropriate, styles various and pleasing to the ear accenting each other in perfect contrast. Below is the verbiage that was sent forth which is intended, for YOU.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NYC-based independent label SpaceLAB Recordings brings you their latest music video, a grimy, rowdy, previously-unreleased posse song entitled “Think Twice (Smutella).” The dusty, vinyl-based track is produced by label founder Jake Palumbo, & features rhymes from 6 of the 7 members of the roster – Jake Palumbo, C-Zar Van Gogh, Ciphurphace & Gotham Heights (emcee/comedian/blogger Ollie OX was in San Francisco at the time & therefore unable to appear on the record).
As is usually expected with SpaceLAB, the track features a diverse variety of emceeing styles, a 90’s-inspired shout-along chorus & lyrical references to everything from terrorism, the Crack Era, chess champion Bobby Fischer, NASCAR, & favorite characters from the A-Team.
Coming off a string of 5 headlining shows at NYC’s famed concert hall the Knitting Factory, & with C-Zar Van Gogh’s sophomore LP This Time Next Year coming in a few short weeks, SpaceLAB Recordings decided to drop a leak for its dedicated fan-base as a way of saying “Thank You” for a very successful 2012, & as a teaser of the upcoming 2013 compilation LP, Space Camp II – the sequel to the crew’s breakout group album.
The “Think Twice (Smutella)” single is a free download, with Dirty, Clean, Instrumental & Acapella mixes & can be found at http://spacelabrecordings.bandcamp.com & up-to-date information about the entire roster can be found at www.spacelabrecordings.com
THIS IS SINCERELY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I’VE WOKEN UP TO IN AWHILE IN TERMS OF MUSIC. SOMETHING RAW AND FRESH, ahem, PHRESH. DOWNLOAD IS AVAILABLE AS STATED AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADDING THIS TO YOUR PLAYLIST.
