Due to the affordability of software, the release of production packs (drum kits, pre-cut samples), and producers putting their own personal crafted sounds on the market, producers are popping up everywhere. There is nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, it gives very talented people who wouldn’t usually have the chance to be heard. The downside of this slope is that you have a bunch of people who want to become producers just because the access is to software and sounds is there. They could care less about the craft, or the history of Hip Hop production, all they want is to sound like whatever is hot right now. Info56 not only sounds like he studies the history of Hip Hop, but he also takes the craft of production seriously. In his new release Southwest, he puts together a tight knit, woven sound with precisely chopped samples and thick drums. On the title track, he chops up a brass section, with electric guitar wahs, that sounds perfect for Raekwon and Ghostface. The piano breakdown gives the drums room to breathe, and then the horns come back in, and DJ Dez’s scratches puts the icing on the cake. “Thug Procession” finds Info slicing a vocal sample over slight drum rolls and a heavy bass line. A few more standout cuts are “Margarita” and “Inner City Mexican” which solidifies his skill as a good producer. Once again, it sounds like Info has studied the history, and honed his craft. And, this savage ass beat tape proves it.

Detroit deejay/producers Dez and Butter present the Dr. Zodiak-directed music video for “Heavy Hittaz”, featuring Kurupt & Boldy James. “Heavy Hittaz” is the new single from A Piece Of The Action, Dez & Butter’s new album out now featuring Kool G. Rap, Elzhi, Pacewon, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Kokane, Fuzz Scoota, BO$$ and Big Rube. The “Heavy Hittaz” video follows the previous clip for “Legends In The Game” featuring Hell Rell and Wesley Valentine (watch). “Kurupt is one of the most humblest veterans I ever met,” says Butter. “He sent the verse back, I let Boldy hear it and it was on. I’ve been knowing Boldy for years, so it was automatic. Kurupt told me he would be in Detroit, so we all met up in downtown Detroit to shoot the video. We got kicked out of the hotel where we were shooting the video, but finished shooting at Saint Andrew’s Hall. The Homies Trick Trick and MC Lee from Detroit’s Most Wanted showed up.” Butter has also confirmed a full-length collaboration between him and Boldy. “Boldy James and I recorded six bangers. I laid some cold beats down for him with cuts and scratches and the works. DJ Dez produced a track with Kokane for the West Coast with Boldy as well. The project will be ready top of the year.”
