The latest single “Cloud” produced by North Carolina up and comer J Rodgers off of Japhia Life’s critically acclaimed new LP “Westside Pharmacy”, with it’s minimalistic and menacing 808 littered instrumental sounds like a blast from past 80’s era hardcore hip-hop, while still showcasing a progressive sonic soundscape.
The reality of Japhia’s artistic self conscious shows up in lines like “See I started rapping in 94, Why you think I sound like I’m from the 90’s for”. Artistically, a “Cloud” is meant to be slang for a thought or a message in terms of it’s meaning. With that said… “Just make sure it’s loud, now that’s a Cloud. That’s real though”.
