San Diego has heaps of talent that could care less about the mainstream. Instead of going for the plaques and national notoriety, they just chilled and carved out their own niche and quietly became successful (Mitchy Slick, Lil Rob, Gangsta Gold Macnif, Oso Ocean). Sometimes, making your own lane is the best lane to take. It seems like Samy Wats is taking this approach with “Multiply”. Featuring UK singer Marci, Wats doesn’t go for the pianos and lead synths for this track. Instead, he allows LD and Rome Ramirez to give him airy bells and a smooth rumbling bass. The track almost sounds like if Samy is going to take you to the beaches of San Diego and hang out by the palm trees. Instead, he takes you to the streets. “We counting the cash, throw it up. She dance for the dead, bounce for the bread. Hustle like we dodging the Feds. Puffing on meds, oh, that’s how girl pay me. And, your hustle ain’t the same, ’cause you real lazy.” The hook lets you know even more that San Diego isn’t a game. “Put your hands up, or your buddy dies. I’m a take all of the money, watch it multiply”, smoothly sings Marci on the track. With Summertime right around the corner, and a single like this. It’s going to be hard for Samy Wats to lose. Sometimes, making your own lane is the best lane to take.
