Now I know this isn’t Hip-Hop but I can tell you without a shade of doubt in my mind, this group will be sampled as the format for some Hip-Hop supergroup in the next 10-20 years. Revered as a classic even. For those not in the know, they would think this was some unheard of vintage soul music and try sampling it now for their mixtape/album.
Fortunately for us this group lives NOW. The group “Venice Dawn” is a godsend to those of us who missed out on the old soul shows and funk shows and Woodstock. This fusion of soul has been the brain-child of Younge for decades. Always working on “his” sound while embodying the sound he resonated with the most.
For a quick backdrop, Adrian Younge was the Musical Director and Composer for the Modern remake of a blaxploitation film by way of “Black Dynamite” starring Michael Jai White, Byron Minns, Tommy Davidson and a whole host of Hollywood actors ready to lend talent to this wonderfully comedic movie. A true must see.
Back to music …HA! … that’s just it….back to music is what seems to be the groups silent mantra, how I see it, as they have gathered steam and been touring both nationally and internationally for the past couple of years, post release of the movie. Unleashing their soulful will on the audience without hesitation and driving their spirits on a journey where only the soul knows. You can definitely hear moments of Hip-Hop influence along with many a genre. One thing I assure you. These guys you WANT to pay attention to.
