The Black Opera have been busy as of late, in addition to a number of live shows including opening for Ghostface Killah and Adrian Younge in Michigan, TBO has been back in the studio working on a new EP for Mello Music Group to hold fans over until the next full length for the group. In the meantime, they decided to enlist Oddisee for a remix of their popular track “Queen Of Hearts featuring Mayer Hawthorne”. The track debuted this morning on HipHopDX and is now out in the wild! Sit back and let this one roll over you.

Free Beat Tape: Substantial – Home Is Where The Art Is (Instrumentals)
Baltimore emcee Substantial released his Oddisee executive produced album Home Is Where The Art Is late last year and quickly garnered acccolades from his strong worldwide fan base. Since then, Substantial has toured with yU (of Diamond District), seen the vinyl release of his record, performed at the Smithsonian in DC, and released a wildly successful tribute album to Jill Scott titled “Jackin’ Jill”. Today, Substantial wanted to share the entire collection of instrumentals from Home Is Where The Art Is with his fans. The complete instrumentals will be free for a week before heading up on itunes, so be sure and grab them now. Beats by Oddisee, Eric Lau, M-Phazes, Algorythm, and more!
Video: Trek Life – Wouldn’t Change Nothing (prod. Oddisee)
This song is the sum of all my most genuine fears on the path to success. I didn’t try to speak for everyone when I wrote it, I just felt like I needed to express all the fear, loss and fuck it that goes on in those quiet moments away from the mic. There’s triumph in the end though. When through it all you realize that there’s nothing you would change. You accept the challenge and know that it only makes the success sweeter. – Trek Life

Free EP: 14KT – A Friendly (Vocal) Game Of KT (feat. Skyzoo, The Black Opera, Oddisee)
Ypsilanti’s golden child, 14KT, has flipped some of his instrumental magic into full-fledged songs on the new EP A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT. The original instrumental project was rife with earth quaking bass lines, precise drums and heavenly synths. Now the vocal version pairs select beats with equally select MC’s to tease a few great instrumentals into a few classic songs. The Ep debuted at Complex today!
MMG all-star Oddisee and his soul singin’ comrade Olivier Daysoul lace the murderous drums and guitar sample of “One 4 Black,” turning it into “High Horse.” New York rhyme wizard Skyzoo and the amorphous The Black Opera are also on board to lend their vocal expertise. Though the short project is stacked with indie rap heavyweights, one of the brightest spots on the album is when KT picks up the mic for the all-new “AsWeContinue.” The introspective track finds KT pouring his soul out in rhyme, opening up about a tumultuous 2011 that left our shining star depressed and the faith that led him out of that.
A producer’s natural evolution is to work with vocalist and A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT is Kendall Tucker’s next step in his progression as a great producer of hip-hop music. Don’t sleep on this heat courtesy of Mello Music Group & ASide Worldwide!

Free Mp3: 14KT – High Horse f. Oddisee & Olivier Daysoul
After releasing the instrumental project “A Friendly Game of KT”, we decided, instead of letting the fans have all the fun rhyming over 14KT’s lush soundscapes, we’d let some of our MMG affiliates take the tracks for a test spin. We ended up creating an entire EP of vocal versions including a special track in which KT himself delivers the rhymes.
This is the first creation from the upcoming 4 track EP, a song originally titled “One 4 Black”, which rhyming adept Oddisee re-envisioned with a little help on the hook from the mellifluous Olivier Daysoul. The message is as straightforward as the new title “High Horse”. Enjoy!

Free Mp3: Oddisee “The Need Superficial”
Oddisee is too large of a talent to dwell comfortably under the term ‘beatmaker’ or even ‘hip-hop producer.’ The DMV representative has a musicality and vision that elevates him past those kinds of confines. Oddisee is a producer with roots in hip-hop. He can work a drum machine and he can rap, but he can also conduct and produce other musicians and vocalists.
Free Mp3: Oddisee “You Know Who You Are” (Acoustic Soul remix) Produced By Nex Millen
Last week while in the studio I started to wonder… What if I had Oddisee on vocals,Olivier Daysoul on guitar and hooks, Brother ?uestlove on drums of course,Karimbeats on P-Bass and Nex Millen on percussion. What would it sound like? Well, I think it would sound like this…
Free Mp3: yU – I Believe (ODDISEE Remix)
After commanding attention on Diamond District’s In The Ruff and his own Before Taxes project, last year’s The Earn continued cementing yU the 78er as a substantive and skilled lyricist with something to say. Recently, his DMV brethren Oddissee remixed “I Believe”, one of the standout cuts from The Earn. Mello Music Group is proud to share the results with you.
Though the original took a more soulful route, Oddissee version is straight up and down unadulterated hip-hop. He blesses the track with a new chorus, reinforcing the song’s motif on belief and playing the mello sidekick to yU’s live verses. The drum-and-horn combination is an homage to the foundation—producers like Large Professor, DJ Premiere and Diamond D—that classic sound that bubbled from the Eastern seaboard decades ago. yU sounds right at home, too. The grit in his delivery seems to come through so clear, almost as if the listener is on a nameless block in D.C. and yU is inches away from your face, spittin’ about how “the passion dictates the pace,” and showing it.
Continuing to rep for the DMV individually and as a unit, yU and Oddissee embody the relentless dedication and grind they reference so often

New Video: Oddisee (f. Olivier Daysoul) – You Know Who You Are
Oddisee’s new album “People Hear What They See” is officially out everywhere today. And while the album is still new, Oddisee sat down with singer Olivier Daysoul to record an acoustic version of the album song “You Know Who You Are”.
The result is a stunning mixture of music and film that highlights Oddisee’s narrative word play (and Olivier’s amazing voice).
