When did you fall in love with H.E.R.

– D.P. : I fell in love with hip hop when I first heard Illmatic by Nas. After listening to Tupac & Biggie the bond between hip hop and I was solidified. I don’t think I could ever divorce her.

MC/DJ/Producer/Graff Writer/Bboy ?

– D.P: MC & a producer and not a making beats type of producer but a Diddy type of producer from picking out the tracks, working with the composer to add or take away from the beat, writing the hook, helping with the recording process, features, as well as mixing etc. Being a MC is my first love though. Writing, venting, just telling my story to the world. Whatever mood the fans are in I will have music that will fit their musical needs.

 

Dayjob or no Dayjob?

– D.P.: Yes you always have to have other hustles whether you’re working a 9 to 5, running a business or handling investments! You can become wealthy in the music industry but you have to have income to fund it starting off. Even if or when you make big bank selling music and doing shows make investments into other things and industries to build a solid financial foundation because many artists became rich and go broke. Don’t let that be you.

Internet: gift or curse?

– D.P.:  Both! More of a gift than a curse but it’s amazing how you can get in contact with fans worldwide and get your music into the hands of the decision makers from behind your keyboard but at the same time the internet is overcrowded. With so many fans getting spammed daily with music from all different artists some don’t even pay attention to great music right under their nose! Plus the internet is another way for scammers to exploit artists hard earned budgets as well so you have to always watch who you spend your money with but overall I would rather have it then not.

Biggest accomplishment:

– D.P.:  My music video hitting MTV & VH1 online last year getting a huge response was one of the biggest moments so far in my career but there are so many like my recent feature alongside my artist Cakes in Hip Hop Weekly Magazine’s Indie Grind Spotlight! I’m just blessed to be able to achieve what I have because some won’t make it this far.

 

 

Why should people check you out?

– D.P.: No matter what type of record I record you will always get me. Life is hard that’s no secret and my music will help many get through the rough times and enjoy the good times. I AM YOU, for we all bleed the same, cry the same and none of us are absent from pain, so you will be able to relate somewhere down the line to one of my songs.

 

Inspiration?

– D.P.: GOD, Family, Pain, Joy, other great artists and from that I use self-motivation to stay inspired and push forward! It’s not always easy but as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other you’re headed in the right direction.

 

 

Favorite song you produced/MCd on?:

– D.P.: Ease The Pain. The beat was so soulful and my verse was about my deceased Grand Mother (RIP). Others who had lost loved ones told me the record helped ease their pain as well. When you listened to that song it just took you somewhere else.

 

Why do you still love H.E.R.?

– D.P.: Because without her I wouldn’t have survived! I owe her my life. I will repay her by staying true to myself and keeping her alive well past my time for I will Live Forever Through Music.
