Based out of Dallas, Texas, Gensu Dean is a producer who has been quietly laying down some heavy tracks in Hiphop. His first production credits were on Crooked Letterz (David Banner) debut record Grey Skies. Since then Dean has had production featured on Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar’s The 5% Album and Sadat X’s Black October, and Melatone’s Memoirs & Melodies. Gensu Dean has been called upon by labels to remix projects from CL Smooth to Ol Dirty Bastard. Dean is known for his classic use of the Emu SP1200, the result of which has earned him co-signs from legends like DJ Spinna, DJ Premier and the King of Rock, DMC of the world renowned Run DMC.

His latest album “Raw” is a awesome collaborative effort with Diamond D and many other artists, each song has something unique about it because of this, and I can’t find one that I don’t like anything about, every single track has a talented artist and every single track has a great instrumental this man is truly talented and deserves a massive big up after being underground for so long. ‘Let the smoke blow’ is probably my personal favourite track for obvious reasons, but every single track I enjoy more and more each time I hear them, good beats, good mc’s, good singers, Genus Dean has shown us a great range of what hip hop has to offer, proving, once again that hip hop is not dead.

Legendary DITC producer Diamond D takes the reins on Diamond District’s newest song from “Redux”. This time the track Erything gets a gritty, gully, grimy makeover (Last week Black Milk recreated Ain’t Over). The new track, Erything, floats through an introspective, vacouous space, echoing with low-key head nodding knock. The original album version of Erything, produced by Oddisee, was a horn drenched affair that reminded many of the group’s original debut In The Ruff, while the new version brings that The complete album March on Washington Redux comes out digitally next week 12/16.

Often under appreciated but never forgotten, Diamond D is easily one of the best producers on the mic. Whether you mess with his work from D.I.T.C or still bump ‘Stunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop’ on the regular, D is just as ambitious today, even with his OG status. Going for a remix that’s reminiscent of The East Flatbush Project’s “Tried By 12,” his take on the Nitty Scott, MC featured “Boyz II Men” taken from Blu & Nottz’ 2013 released ‘Gods In The Spirit’ EP, truly bears the Diggin’ in the Crates Crew stamp of approval. Diamond D’s remix of “Boyz II Men” is featured on the ‘iTunes Deluxe Edition’ of Coalmine Records’ ten year anniversary compilation, ‘Unearthed’, as well as the CD and vinyl edition of ‘Gods In The Spirit,’ both of which are now available.
