I`ll always love H.E.R. Conference in Detroit:

As a girl from Germany, an outsider, but a fan of Detroit music, a listener and a friend of many Detroit artists, I expected the music scene to be united, I expected to find hip hop shows and events on every corner. In 2008, when I visited Detroit for the first time, I had to face reality. I realized that artists from the same city didn’t know of each other, that hip hop nights had died out and that there was not a lot of connecting at all, let alone a united Hip Hop scene.
When Blake Eerie, an artist I had met during my first visit in Detroit, approached me about interviewing him I had to tell him that I wasn’t interested in conventional interviews anymore. If I was to interview him it had to be something special. We talked for a little bit and came up with the idea of inviting a few more local artists and do it conference-style. Over the following week we started spreading the word and more and more people were interested in joining us. We did not realize the dimension of what we were going to witness, until the day of the “interview”.
By 8pm about 35 artists had arrived and every single one was amazed by the outcome. Everyone was happy to meet some of the others for the first time and started to network before the conference had even started. That’s when I realized that we had started something big. Something we would need to build upon. As we sat down and started to discuss the state of Detroit Hip Hop and its scene, I noticed that every one of us had pretty much the same opinion of what was going wrong and what needed to be changed. In order for Detroit Hip Hop to come up, people needed to connect and support each other opposed to staying only in their own circle.
The discussion went on for two hours, we laughed, I almost cried ( ;-) ), we talked passionately and agreed that we all did it for one reason, the love for music, so why not do it together.
Of course, we could not leave it at that one night. From April 2009 on, our “I’ll always love H.E.R.” conference will take place every first Monday of the month at 5 Elements Gallery in Detroit.
A conference will be held from 9pm – 10:45pm, open for artists to join and fans to listen. We welcome everybody to come out and network, meet & greet, enjoy the talk, and afterwards listen to Hip Hop and Oldschool at its best.
Leave us your e-mail address and we will keep you updated on Hip hop events and shows in the Detroit area and of course all updates on our project.
