My first time meeting Craig, was about 4 years ago, I was chilling with a friend at my local skate park, he was just bopping around with his guitar singing songs, then came and sat down with us he introduced himself then he started telling us a story, “So I went to this open mic night and this guy gets called onto the stage ‘please welcome barry barspin’ this guy, gets up on stage and just says ‘I don’t spit bars I sling them’ drops the mic and goes off stage” ever since I’ve been the only person who’s nick named him Bazzah and get genuinely confused when people call him Craig or “CW”.
Whilst working at Illusive festival this year I was working with the Poet tree alliance stage got to see lots of Craig live, and I do mean, a LOT the mc’s worked so hard on this stage. One morning I got into the Poet tree tent waiting for all the hippies in the tent to wake up. After awhile, Craig comes in, by this time it’s 12pm and there’s still hippies sleeping everywhere, throws his guitar down onto the stage says “Fuck it, music’s off today! … where’s the weed at?” because it was almost just constant open mic the mc’s and beatboxers were beyond knackered, but, I had never seen so many people know the lyrics to all of Craig’s songs. It was surreal to see someone I know from my hometown become so well known almost over night, and fair play, it’s so nice to see someone so talented be acknowledged, in a age where any old rubbish is seen as good, and the skilled artists barely get seen.
His music has a very bluesy feel to it it’s the sort of music you can chill to, but live he’s so much more, this guy just started with him and his guitar, so he has the acoustic down and now he’s gone into music production and he can spit with the rest of the mc’s, man’s got serious skills.
The man is a legend, I’ve met quite a few artists from working at festivals and over time they can become arrogant, stand off ish and rude it’s like they become so in love with themselves so much that they no longer care about the people that got them there, not Craig, he’s a genuine person. He’s gone from wondering around Leighton Buzzard’s streets with his guitar to playing Glastonbury festival this year. Craig has gone far in such a short space of time so if you haven’t heard of him give him a listen, it’s well worth your time.
Here’s a few links to some of his music:
