Today, Kool Keith is excited to release his latest album, Love & Danger. The album, which is the 13th of Kool Keith’s career, is now available through Junkadelic Music.
With Love & Danger, Kool Keith also continues to hint at, and toy with the idea of, retirement, most of all with the album’s latest single and closing track “Goodbye Rap.” Keith opens the song calling out new artists, DJs, and business people that don’t properly represent the music. And while taking a shots at imposters, Keith also takes the opportunity to set himself apart from the bunch: “While everybody was fat, cooking sausage,” raps Keith, “I was wearing Ostrich/ Rap ain’t been the same since I had it hostage.”
The video, directed by The ICU, captures Keith in a series of classic hip-hop landscapes – namely, dirty stairwells and New York City rooftops – surrounded by a host of full-body women. And while Keith doesn’t break out any Ostrich for the video, he does don a series of flashy headwear selections throughout, including a Texas Longhorns hunting cap, a black-and-white checkered bucket hat, and – most flashy of all – a sequined headdress draped down over his shoulders.
